Did you know that 65,000,000 Americans serve as caregivers for members of their families - that translates to 29% of us at any given time providing care. Fourteen percent of those receiving care are children with disabilities, with these "children" ranging fom infants to adults who may be 60 years of age or older.
Did you know that in our community there are mothers and fathers and other family members who have been caring for a family member with disabilities for decades, some with little or no break? Because of the needs of their family members with disabilities, it is difficult for them to go shopping, to go to medical appointments, to visit friends and other family members. Some rarely if ever get away to go out to eat or go to a movie. Some have never had a vacation. Many have no one they can turn to if they become ill or need to go to the hospital.
