There's a place to sit on their front porch and rock for our eight ladies who now call Clayton home. Their new home is the replacement for our old Third Street Ladies Home. The home is a duplex, with four ladies on each side. It is owned by the nonprofit housing corporation Miami Valley In-Ovations (MVIO.)
We provide homes for adults with a range of intellectual/developmental disabilities. Members of our extended RHA family live in various group settings in communities located throughout Montgomery County, with 24 hours a day support and care by Direct Support Professionals (DSPs.)
We provide homes and support services, including Adult Day Services, transportation and respite service, in conjunction with other service providers in the community, such as the Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Services. Each of our residents has an ISP (Individual Service Plan) that is developed in partnership between our staff and staff of the County Board.
Our residents are lifelong members of our family. Most have lived in our homes and been supported by our staff for decades, including our first resident who joined us in 1969. Many came to live with us as a result of the closing of state institutions and still carry those memories of the time before they were accepted as our neighbors and friends.
Since we were one of the earliest service providers, many of our residents are senior citizens and have retired from community employment or supported employment.
We are dedicated to making their senior years as meaningful and productive as their work years. We have an active and creative Seniors program that includes weekly activities with students from the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program (OTA) at Sinclair Community College. The students do their required Field Experience with us and our seniors benefit from activities that keep them both busy and entertained, with an emphasis on their small and gross motor skills.
Our residents also participate in a range of events and activities coordinated through our shared Volunteer Program, including Summer of Service, Friend By Choice and more.
