Did you know that 65 million Americans serve as caregivers for members of their families - that means 29% of us at any given time are providing care to someone in our family? Fourteen percent (14%) of us are caring for children with disabilities, with those "children" ranging from infancy to adults who may be 60 years of age or older.
Resident Home Association provides an option for family caregivers in Montgomery County who are caring for their family members with disabilities in their own homes.
Did you know that in our community there are mothers and fathers and other family members who have been caring for a family member with a disability for decades, and some with little or no break? Because of the needs of their family member it is difficult for them to go shopping, to go to medical appointments, to visit friends and other family members. Some rarely if ever can get away to go out to eat or go to a movie. Some have never had a vacation. Many have no one they can count on if they become ill or need to go into a hospital for a short stay.
For those families and individuals we offer a limited number of respite opportunities in our safe and nurturing homes. Our respite services are open without interruptions to adult day service attendance; i.e. if your son/daughter attends an Adult Services Center during the day, we would make sure he/she attends the Center when we are providing respite services. He/she will participate in our home activities right beside our residents and with the same care and concern from our staff.
